MIDDLE SCHOOL EXPLORATORY:
CAREER AND ACADEMIC PLANNING TEACHER
The Solon Community School District is in search of a .25 FTE Exploratory Teacher. The position will start in January of 2025 with the potential to expand in proceeding school years. This unique position will provide students in 6th through 8th grade opportunities to explore careers, understanding opportunities available as they prepare for and enter high school, and consider post high school pathways (employment, enlistment in the military, and enrollment in college or trade school). The teacher in this position will collaborate with the high school Individual Career and Academic Planning team to create a comprehensive District Career and Academic Planning plan.
Qualifications: 5-12 or K-8 certification through the IBOEE.
The content for this position will include instruction in the following areas:
- Self-understanding: Students shall engage in developmentally appropriate inventories and assessments that promote self-understanding, the connection to work, and engage in meaningful reflective activities about the results.
- Career Information: Students shall research careers based on self-understanding results and engage in meaningful reflection about the findings.
- Career Exploration: Students shall engage in activities that reveal connections among school-based instruction, career clusters, and the world of work and engage in meaningful reflection.
- Postsecondary Exploration: Students shall engage in activities to explore relevant postsecondary education and training options related to career interests and engage in meaningful reflection on the exploration experience.
- Career and Postsecondary Decision Making: Students shall complete relevant activities to meet their postsecondary goals consistent with the plan and stated post secondary intention.
